Cashmere Bouquet, introduced in 1872, was Colgate's first milled, perfumed toilet soap. The name "Cashmere Bouquet" was registered as a trademark — a new step for Colgate.
Cashmere Bouquet Toilet Water was one item in Colgate's line of "Cashmere Bouquet" products. (Product extentions were well known to the Colgate company and other soapmakers and perfumers in the 19th century.) We don't know exactly when this particular bottle of Cashmere Bouquet Toilet Water was produced but clearly sometime after 1872 and, judging from the type of stopper employed, it is an older bottle.
This bottle was produced by an automatic bottle-blowing machine and the mold seams can be seen running in vertical lines all the way from the base to the lip. The "Cashmere Bouquet" trademark registration is noted in very small type on the front of the bottle.
This particular bottle of Cashmere Bouquet Toilet Water is 5-1/4 inches tall, from the base to the top of the stopper.

The back of the bottle bears the new Colgate trademark, molded into the glass. (To see the older Colgate trademark,click here.)
The stopper is a metal plug pressed into a metal ring which is mounted to a cork which stoppers the bottle and acts like a modern orifice reducing plug. All this can be seen in the photos at right and above. |
